PETALING JAYA: Veteran journalist Thomas Lee Seng Hock (pic) has died of liver cancer at the age of 64.
Born June 25, 1948, he passed away at 4.30pm in his home yesterday.
He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer three months ago.
Lee was initially warded at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang before being transferred to University Malaya Medical Centre after two weeks.
Daughter Beverly Lee Hsiao-Fung, 32, said her father moved back home in early May.
“Everything was left in order and we are holding up well,” she said.
He began his long media career at The Star in the 1970s before going on to join other news organisations such as The Edge, The Sun, New Straits Times, The Malay Mail and mysinchew.com.
He rejoined The Star on July 22, 1996 and last held the position of deputy editor (production) on the Metro desk before leaving on July 5, 2009.
Until his illness, he served as a casual sub-editor with The Sun and a media consultant to the Penang government.
The Star’s executive director and group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai described Lee as one of the best sub-editors in Malaysian journalism, with a sharp eye for detecting mistakes or how to improve a copy.
“His regular SMSes to his former colleagues on such matters will be greatly missed. He was a good man with only good words for his colleagues and friends,” he added.
He leaves behind wife Dolly Tan, 57, and children Beverly and Isaac Lee Xi-Kwang, 26.
The wake will be held at the Fairy Park funeral parlour on Jalan Batu Tiga Lama, Klang at 8.30pm today.
His cremation service will be held at 11am tomorrow.
